Chipotle Mexican Grill ~ Richmond, VA ~ Willow Lawn

Mexican food is a family favorite and we are always trying to find the best food for families at Living History Sites! A quick stop at the new Chipotle Mexican Grill in Richmond (one of 7) was all our taste buds were after!

We arrived in the midst of the “Great Tomato Scare of the Summer of 2008” with some folks getting salmonella from Texas tomatoes. Chipotle is always alert, so the Richmond Willow Lawn Chipotle pulled their fresh tomato salsa, and knocked down the heat index of their medium corn salsa so they could go on serving the world’s best tacos, burritos, bowls and more!

We went to this Chipotle twice – and it was AWESOME both times! Friendly service, employees ready to serve, and fresh, delicious food, perfectly spiced, both times. This group cares about the product they are putting out, and the flavor shows it!

I got the barbacoa hard shell tacos, with corn salsa, cheese and extra, extra lettuce. Their barbacoa is spiced perfectly; tender, succulent shredded beef – if you haven’t tried barbacoa – do take the plunge and try it once in the tacos! I end up with a bowl full of lettuce at the end of the tacos, which is why I ask for extra lettuce. A squeeze of lime, a dollop of extra salsa and sometimes a flash of the salt shaker and you have a salad. I try to get 3 servings of vegetables out of the tacos, and this little combination helps me get my veggies in for the day. Total 10!

Dave got the Chipotle burrito bowl, which is a bowl with cilantro rice, chicken, lettuce, guacamole, hot salsa, and cheese. He found it flavorful, scrumptious, filling and very tasty – like always! He had them put their black beans in a bowl on the side, rather than IN the bowl and let me have them – spiced perfectly again.

Emily can’t wait to bite into the huge chicken burritos they make! She favors rice, chicken, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomato salsa – although got the corn.

We also enjoyed a huge thing of Chipotle’s special chips. Sprinkled with fresh lime juice, and a sprinkle of course salt, they are wonderfully limey and appealing. Their guacamole was flavorful, with red onions, cilantro and an edge of lime – excellent!

We highly recommend this Chipotle Willow Lawn in Richmond and would love one of our own in NE Tennessee!

Special thanks to Adnan Bajramaliu for his excellent care!
